SYUNIK is the southernmost province in Armenia and stretches to the Iranian border near the hot, semi-desert town of Meghri.

It is well worth ascending the 3300m
to arrive at the tiny lake surrounded by petroglyphs at Ughtasar A
long ride in a 4x4 is the only way to reach it, and even then it is
only accessible between July and September.

The monastery of Tatev is now listed
as a World Heritage Site. Not only is it the site of a monastery but
it was an important learning centre in the middle ages.. It used to
involve a mountain drive from Goris or Sisian, but now it is accessible
by the longest cable-car track in the world.
