The complex at Ananauri is found between
Tbilisi and the Russian border near Kazbegi (Stepantsminda). It lies
in a spectacular setting with the Zhinvali Reservoir immediately to
the south.

The interesting museum, mosque and
madrassa are located on the top of the hill in the old town. Akhaltsikhe
means "New Castle" and is still home to over 7,000 Armenians,
about one third of its population.
