Aparan Town

ARAGATSOTN, the foot of Mount Aragats. The chief town is the historical, attractive town of Ashtarak, situated at a strategic crossing place of the Kasagh River.

Below: The view towards Yerevan from Amberd.

Tegher

Aparan, famous for the battle in the 20th century against the Turks, with a monument to Dro, the famed Armenian military leader and a 5th century church, one of the oldest in the country. Aparan is also the commercial centre for the Yezdis, who predominate many of the local villages in the region.

The monastery of Tegher, near Amberd on the south slopes of Mount Aragats. This large dark-coloured structure of basalt also commands excellent views onto the plain below to the south.
